Education Using The Two C's In Writing Your Newsletter
Saturday, July 21, 2012
Most people who put their mind to it can write a Newsletter. Lets face it, it's not hard. But getting your Newsletter read not just once but every time you bring out a new edition is a slightly different proposition. This brings me to the use of the two C's. Well actually its three, but l will talk about the third one a little later on. The first one is the most obvious - CONTENT - with out it you have not got a Newsletter. The golden rule we are told is that content is king...Yes true but the second of the two C's is the one l find most important. COMMUNICATION: For me this is where the secret is in getting your Newsletter read. Your Newsletter may have the most amazing content but unless you can communicate with your reader they are most probably going to stop after reading after a few lines or paragraphs. So how do we keep their attention? One particular way is to write as though you writing to them personally by that l don't mean in a letter or email where you could be asking them about their vacation!!!. More in a way of written discussion, as you write and your laying out your content make the reader feel as they want to talk back to you. For example write a few paragraphs finish them with an answered question... This has your reader now thinking as well. By doing this you have got their attention and they will be eager to read on, this where the third C comes into play. CONTROVERSY: By that l don't mean go and start a war with your reader, but add in some of your own views on your subject matter that maybe not totally accepted but do have some weight behind them. By now your reader will want to add their comment and here is your chance to get them to respond. Make sure you have an email address or your web page where they can contact you available. By getting them to contact you its a pretty good indication they will be looking to subscribe to your Newsletter for future issues. Not only that there is an excellent chance they will talk to friends and colleagues about what they have seen in your Newsletter. When replying to reader who has contacted you about the topic in your Newsletter ask them if its OK to publish their comments in your next issue and say you would like to open a discussion on their views and thoughts and get feed back from other readers. Always end your Newsletter with a little Info on your next issue and again finish with a thought provoking comment or unanswered question.... Don't be scared to be different.
