Remember the tragic incident of 9/11? After the twin towers were up in flames and about to collapse due to the fire, it was the firefighters who risked their lives and went inside the inferno to save innocent lives. When the towers collapsed, many fire fighters were inside, still performing their duty and saving lives. Yes, this is the most glaring example of the kind of jobs that fire fighters perform. They battle it out with danger all the time, risking their own lives, while saving the lives of others who need help at the right moment. Thus, the job of a fire fighter is very crucial. Once they receive information or a distress call, they immediately rush with the fire tenders to the site of the emergency. Using pipes and hoses, they douse the flames with water, taking charge of the situation and saving valuable lives and property. During the course of dousing the fire, firefighters also have to check whether there are any persons still trapped in the structure which is under flames. If there are any persons trapped, they go in inside the building under fire and rescue them. After rescuing the victims, they administer first aid to them and then transport the victims to the nearby hospital for treatment. Firefighting is a challenging task which also gives immense job satisfaction to the ones as it also serves the purpose of contributing to the society. Firefighters mostly work long hours, at times even for 24 hours at a stretch when they have to live at the fire station only and after a 24 hour long shift, they get long hours to rest. They are the ones who need to respond within few moments after receiving a distress call even as they require being on their toes round the clock during their duty hours. One needs to be courageous to work as a firefighter as at times firefighters do sustain serious injuries and some also may lose their lives during executing their duties. They not only douse flames or control fire but they are also responsible for rescuing the trapped victims and firefighters are also required at times to serve during natural calamities, be it earthquake, storm or even heavy rain. Thus, the job of firefighters is challenging and yet it brings immense satisfaction. If you have a will to serve the society and are courageous and can fight all the odds, then a job as a firefighter is the best one for you.
