Education Picking the Correct Distance Learning Program for You

Over the last few years, taking a degree through distance learning has become more alluring. As well, some students choose distance learning for upgrading courses for their employment, or to supplement their degree program because it can be less expensive than a traditional college or university program. Before you take on this goal, you will need to do some research and pick the right distance learning provider. While many schools are accredited, often under the umbrella of an established and registered school, there are many others which are not accredited. It can be incredibly frustrating and disheartening, to say the absolute least, to spend a year or two, and much money as well, working towards a certificate, or acquiring undergraduate program pre-requisites only to discover that, as the school is not accredited, the courses are not transferable to your college of choice. You don't want to waste your time and money in that direction.

Keep your end goal in mind. If it is certification or a diploma in a trade, make sure that the school is recognized by that trade's licensing board. If it is to earn pre-requisites or transfer credits for a college or university, be very sure that the program, the distance learning provider and the specific classes fit the criteria and are accepted by the school. It is up to each student to ensure that their school and program is accredited, or recognized.
