It was named after lord Shiva as he is idolised in this temple.

It was not aimed at simply studying sex and making note of different ways to engage in sexual activities but to comprehend the vast knowledge which the world holds within itself. The study was done several decades ago but its words still have significance and importance in the present day and age. Chandela have stated many ways and practises which are tried by many in India and abroad. Their monuments and their literature speaks more words than most other dynasties, the impact they have created is yet to be diminished.
